Area couple married 74 years dies a day apart

    A Worcester area couple married 74 years died a day apart shortly before Christmas, according to tributes posted to an area funeral home.

    Barbara Lucy (Johnson) Rawson passed away on Tuesday, December 21st, according to Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home of Webster. She was 94.

    Her husband, David E. Rawson, passed away the following day. He was 99.

    The Rawsons married on March 15th, 1947, and lived in Thompson, Connecticut. 

    David worked “as a farmer and as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers,” his obituary reads.

     “He served his community as a member of the Thompson Planning & Zoning Commission for many years, as a life member of the Thompson Hill Fire Engine Company, as a member of the American Legion and as a  member of the Thompson Congregational Church, where he served in many capacities over the years.”

    Barbara “had a lifelong interest in horses,” her obituary reads. “She participated in local parades, horse shows and trail rides, and was a 4-H Club Leader. … She was a former member of theThompson Hill Fire Engine Co. Auxiliary and the Thompson Historical Society. She was a member of the Thompson Congregational Church and was active in many roles over the years, as a Sunday School teacher, in the Ladies Aid Society and on the Executive Council, as well as being part of the Eastern CT Christian Women’s Association. She truly was blessed by the fellowship of her Church Family and especially enjoyed Sunrise Services, worship at the Brandy Hill Church, and singing hymns.”

    They were both members of the Tri-State Horsemen’s Association, the L & G Riding Club, the Connecticut Horse Council and Waters Farm in Sutton. 

     The couple had 2 daughters, 2 granddaughters and 6 great-grandchildren.
