Wrentham – Today while visiting Cape Cod Chris Doughty, Republican candidate for Governor, and Kate Campanale, candidate for Lt. Governor, announced that revitalizing tourism will be a priority for helping the Massachusetts economy. Campanale will lead the effort for the Doughty Administration.
“With the Commonwealth’s beauty and so many unique qualities, our state should be in the top 5 states for tourism. We are now averaging around 21st in state rankings. We must improve our standing. That’s why today we are announcing that Kate Campanale as the next Lt. Governor will spearhead the effort to revitalize our state’s tourism. We understand how critical this is for our economy,” said Doughty.
Campanale will take a leadership role in reviewing past practices and how our tourism budget is being spent. She will also spearhead a public relations tour to highlight the many reasons to visit Massachusetts.
“Our state has it all. From the Cape Cod beaches to the Berkshires, we live in the most beautiful state in the nation. We have arts and entertainment and we have the history. Every American should do the Freedom Trail and visit the Kennedy library and John Adams’ home,” said Campanale. “Here on Cape Cod, there are so many wonderful beaches and fun attractions for the whole family. The Commonwealth should be at least in the top 5 destination spots in the country. We can fix this.”
“While I am working to make Massachusetts more competitive by lowering taxes to bring in more jobs, Kate will be helping our existing businesses by improving tourism, said Doughty.
Doughty and Campanale are the only candidates who have been addressing the issue of tourism and the needs of Cape Cod and Western Massachusetts. They are the only team with specific plans.
Last month, they revealed their plan focused on helping Cape Cod. Their plan addresses the following issues:
“With innovative, creative and bold thinking, we can ensure that the Cape is the crown jewel of the Northeast United States for travel and tourism, grows emerging blue enterprises, and nurtures an exceptional quality of life,” said Campanale.
Doughty plans on making replacing the bridges a top item on his to-do list. He will use the power of the office to expedite and encourage the federal government to get the project moving forward. He will ensure that the state does their part.
