How Journalism Works kicks off at Worcester Public Library

  • WORCESTER — The Worcester Public Library will host the first installment of a new discussion series, “How Journalism Works,” from 2 to 3:30 Saturday, September 6th in the Saxe Room.

    The inaugural panel, titled “Separating News From Opinion,” will be moderated by Lee Hill, executive editor for GBH News.

    Hill oversees editorial content and newsroom strategy for GBH and previously held leadership roles at WNYC/New York Public Radio, where he served as executive producer of the national news program “The Takeaway.”

    Panelists include Michael McDermott, executive editor of the Telegram & Gazette; Hank Stolz,longtime Worcester radio host and morning personality on RadioWorcester.com and 830-AM WCRN; Kristen B. Payson, editor of The Landmark newspaper covering Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland and Sterling; and Jina Ortiz, a multidisciplinary writer whose debut poetry collection is due in 2025.

    The series aims to help the public better understand how journalism functions and why distinguishing factual reporting from opinion is essential.
