4 Worcester Bravehearts selected in 2022 MLB Draft

  • Assumption’s Jack Choate Highlights Bravehearts Draft Class

Worcester - The Worcester Bravehearts announced on Wednesday that three former players, and one current player were selected in the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft.

North Grafton-native and Assumption University Left-handed pitcher Jack Choate was selected in the 9th round by the San Francisco Giants. Choate spent the summer of 2021 playing for the Worcester Bravehearts where he was a Futures League All-Star, and broke the league’s single season strikeout record, compiling 82 strikeouts over 54 innings pitched.

Current Worcester Bravehearts Shortstop and Medfield-native Jack Goodman was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round. In 19 games with Worcester this season, Goodman has hit .306 with 10 runs scored, a home run and 5 RBI. With the selection, Goodman becomes the fourth active-Braveheart in history to be selected in the MLB Draft.

Boston College’s Joe Mancini was also drafted in the 15th round, just 24 picks after Goodman. Mancini was part of an elite Bravehearts starting rotation in 2018, where he led the team to The Futures League Championship Series. Mancini held a 1.98 ERA for the Bravehearts, pitching 36 innings for the team while only allowing four walks all season.

Rounding off the Bravehearts Draft Picks is 2020’s EJ Exposito. The team’s shortstop in their Covid-shortened season hit .270 for the team with six home runs, also leading his team to a championship series.

With the four recent selections, 21 Worcester Bravehearts players have been selected in the MLB draft since their inaugural season in 2014.
