Worcester - The Worcester Bravehearts will host their annual Sport Management Summit Friday, February 10th in partnership with Nichols College and Boston College Woods College of Advancing Studies. The Sports Management Summit will be held at Worcester State University and will run from 9am- 2pm.
Director of Athletics for The College of the Holy Cross, Kit Hughes, will give the Keynote Address to kick off the Summit. In December 2021, Hughes was named Director of Athletics for Holy Cross after serving as Deputy Athletics Director at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Hughes graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME and then received his Master’s Degree from Boston College.
Hughes got his start in sports full-time at North Carolina State University, where he was hired as the Assistant Director of Football Operations before getting promoted to Director of Football Operations. Hughes transitioned to Bowling Green in 2014 as Senior Associate Athletic Director in 2014 and was promoted to Deputy Athletic Director in 2020. He now serves as Director of Athletics at Holy Cross, supporting over 700 student-athletes competing across 27 Division I sports.
The Summit will be a three part event that will feature a job fair, five panel discussions, and a keynote address. Seven Worcester Sports Organizations will be represented including the Bravehearts, Worcester Railers, Worcester Red Sox, Massachusetts Pirates, Holy Cross Athletics, Worcester Smiles and Worcester Warriors. Other organizations with representation include the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, New England Patriots, Washington Nationals, New York Mets, DraftKings, ESPN, 98.5 The Sports Hub and more.
Hughes will be the third Keynote Speaker in the Summit’s history. Michael Aresco, Commissioner of the AAC (2019) and Amy Latimer, President of TD Garden (2020) headlined previous Keynote addresses. The Summit was cancelled in 2021 and 2022 due to Covid. Spectrum1 News Worcester’s Kevin Shea will host the Keynote Discussion that will feature a conversation with Hughes about his career in sports, advice to students looking to break into the industry, and resources that are available.
