Worcester – The Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Nashua Silver Knights, 5-0, in the first game of a home-and-home series at Fitton Field Friday night.

The win makes Worcester’s overall record 2-1, while Nashua drops to 1-2 on the season.

Friday’s game, in front of a crowd of 2,530 fans, was the Bravehearts’ opening night game following a Wednesday morning season opener. It is the first of 5 Friday fireworks games which feature a display following the game.

Worcester got on the scoreboard in the first inning. After Tyler Bastunas (Drury) walked, he scored on a wild pitch by the Silver Knights’ Erik Sibbach (Stevens Institute). Following a single by Antonio Morales (Wake Forest), Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) and Caden Dulin (Rowan) scored to bring the Bravehearts an early 3-run lead.

Nashua threatened in the seventh, when Shane McNamara (Eastern Nazarene) hit a double off the Bravehearts’ Max LeBlanc (University of Massachusetts Amherst), followed by a single by Jake Hatch (Emerson) which put McNamara in scoring position with no outs. However, 2 subsequent strikeouts and a flyout to the second baseman quickly ended the inning scoreless for Nashua.
