5 Friday night fireworks shows planned in Worcester
Worcester— The Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England has released the 2021 Futures League regular season schedule. The Worcester Bravehearts will open their eighth season in the league at home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 against the Westfield Starfires.
The Bravehearts will play five of their first six games at home at Fitton Field. During that span they will welcome one of the league’s new teams, the Norwich Sea Unicorns, on Friday, May 28. That night will also be the first of six Friday Night Fireworks shows that will take place throughout the season. The other five fireworks shows will occur on June 11 and July 23 against Norwich, June 25 against Westfield, July 30 against the Pittsfield Suns, and the final game of the season on August 13 against the Nashua Silver Knights. Along with fireworks, Friday home games will come with the debut of the Bravehearts new “Friday Night Brights” uniforms.
The 2021 Futures League season will have eight teams. The Nashua Silver Knights, Brockton Rox, Westfield Starfires, and New Britain Bees all return from the 2020 season. The Pittsfield Suns return to the league after sitting out last year. In addition to the Norwich Sea Unicorns, the league will also welcome the Vermont Lake Monsters, a former affiliate team of the Oakland Athletics. The North Shore Navigators have departed the Futures League.
The Futures League has expanded their season to 68 games per team, a 12 game increase from previous seasons. For the first time in league history, the Futures League will open the season before Memorial Day. The Bravehearts will host a matinee game on Memorial Day where they will welcome the Nashua Silver Knights to Fitton Field for the first time in the 2021 season. The FCBL Playoffs will begin on Saturday, August 14 with the top four teams in the league based on record advancing to the semi-finals. Both the semifinals and championship rounds will be best-of-three series. Additionally, New Britain will host the 2021 All Star Game on Tuesday, July 13 at New Britain Stadium.
The Bravehearts have announced they will not be increasing season ticket prices even with an extra 12 games added to their schedule.
Since 2011, the Futures League has experienced a meteoric rise to become one of the top summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country. This rise is due in large part to the league’s well-capitalized ownership groups featuring franchises with tremendous facilities and outstanding communities. This allowed the league to put on a successful 2020 season, which was highlighted by having Futures League games broadcast on NESN. Learn more at www.thefuturesleague.com
