Double-digits deaths at 8 Worcester long-term care facilities

    COVID-19 deaths at Worcester long-term care facilities

    Knollwood Nursing Center is the only long-term care facility in Worcester to report fewer than 10 cases among residents and staff.

    Eight of 17 long-term care facilities in Worcester have reported 10 or more deaths related to COVID-19, according to state data released on Wednesday.

    All but two of the 17 also reported more than 30 COVID-19 cases among residents and staff.

    St. Mary’s Health Care Center, which with 172 licensed beds has the second-highest number of possible residents among city long-term care facilities, has seen the most residents pass away, 30.

    Notre Dame Long Term Care Center (28), Beaumont at University Campus (25), Blaire House of Worcester (24) and Jewish Healthcare Center (22) all reported more than 20 resident deaths.

    Two facilities -- Beaumont at University Campus and Knollwood Nursing Center -- were the only ones reporting fewer than 31 cases among residents and staff. Beaumont reported 10-30 cases; Knollwood, fewer than 10.

    Knollwood was also one of three facilities in Worcester reporting fewer than five deaths. The others are West Side House and Hermitage Healthcare.

    The data reported by the state was through Tuesday.

    Other long-term care facilities in Worcester County 

    Among the remaining long-term care facilities in Worcester County, seven of 29 reported 25 or more deaths.

    Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Westborough reported the most deaths, 30. Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Northbridge, LifeCare Center of Auburn and The Highlands in Fitchburg all reported 29 deaths.

    CareOne of Millbury (28), Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center of Northborough (25) and Shrewsbury Nursing & Rehab Center (22) all reported more than 20.

    Five long-term care facilities in Worcester County have reported no deaths due to COVID-19. They are: Quabbin Valley Healthcare of Athol, Fitchburg Rehab and Nursing Center, Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge, Lanessa Extended Care in Webster and Whitter Westborough Transitional Care Unit in Westborough.
