WORCESTER — After 29 years at the helm of Peppercorn's Grille and Tavern, longtime owner Tom Oliveri is retiring and selling the popular Worcester restaurant to a former employee and his family.

Oliveri, who has spent more than 40 years in the restaurant business, announced the sale in a social media post.

The new ownership group includes Joe Kaplan, a former Peppercorn's employee who currently owns and operates 3 restaurants in the area, along with his family. Peppercorn's longtime general manager, Cathleen, and head chef, Marcos, will also be part of the ownership group.

Despite the ownership change, Oliveri assured customers that the restaurant's operations will remain the same.

"Most importantly, nothing is changing!" Oliveri wrote. "The same great staff, menu, food, and friendly atmosphere you've come to love will all remain the same."

Oliveri said he is confident the restaurant will continue to thrive under its new owners.

"I couldn't be happier knowing Peppercorn's is in such great hands," he wrote.

He also expressed gratitude to the customers who have supported the restaurant over nearly 3 decades.

"To all our loyal customers, thank you for 29 incredible years of friendship, support, and memories," Oliveri wrote. "You've made this journey truly special, and I will always be grateful."

Oliveri concluded his announcement with a toast to the restaurant's future: "Here's to the continued success of Peppercorn's for many years to come!"

A date for the ownership transition was not announced.
