UPDATE: Canal District favorite reopens after COVID closure

  • UPDATE 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 21 -- BirchTree Bread Company, which closed temporarily on Thursday because of an employee's positive test for COVID-19, reopened this morning.

    In a Facebook post made shortly after noon yesterday, the eatery wrote: "With a clean bill of health and a sparkling clean and sanitized space, we are happy to let you know that we will be OPEN tomorrow for business as usual! Thank you for your understanding and patience as we followed the necessary steps to reopen. See you soon!"

    And shortly after 7 this morning, it posted: "See you soon friends! Open 9-5 for dine-in and curbside pick-up."

    Original: A positive test for COVID-19 abruptly closed BirchTree Bread Company in the Canal District of Worcester yesterday.

    In a Facebook post made shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday, the restaurant wrote: "We will be closed until further notice. One of our team members tested positive for Covid-19. The last time this employee was in the restaurant was 10:30 this morning.

    "Other team members that have been in contact will be getting tested and the restaurant will be deep cleaned and sanitized. The safety of our guests, staff and their families are of the utmost importance to us, and we are committed to doing all we can to protect them to the best of our ability. We continue to abide by the state guidelines and our own safety measures and protocols. We are working closely with the Worcester Department of Public Health and we will reopen as soon as it's safe. We hope our team member has a speedy recovery and is feeling better soon. Please wear a mask, be safe, and we hope to see you as soon as possible."
