Driver ran stop sign at 4 Corners, police allege
Sutton Police Department cruiser (Sutton Police on Facebook)
SUTTON – A suspected drunk driver blew through a stop sign and hit a Sutton Police Department cruiser on Saturday night, according to Sutton PD.
The crash took place at the 4 Corners intersection in Manchaug, according to a post on the Sutton PD Facebook page Sunday morning.
“Last night, Sgt. Joe Fortunato was traveling on Putnam Hill Road, heading towards Main Street when his cruiser was struck by a vehicle that did not stop at the Manchaug Rd stop sign,” the post reads.
“[B]ut that wasn’t the worst of it.”

After investigation at the scene, the driver, Nina Quirk of Berlin, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, as well as negligent operation of a motor vehicle for failing to stop at the intersection.
“The good news is that Sgt. Fortunato is ok,” the post reads, “but we can’t say the same for his cruiser.”
