Shrewsbury Fire Department photos (Facebook)
SHREWSBURY — Shrewsbury Fire Chief James Vuona ended his illustrious 32-year career with a nostalgic farewell, riding home in the department’s antique 1926 pumper recently. The farewell ride marked a tradition for the Shrewsbury Fire Department, honoring firefighters on their final shift.
Chief Vuona's final day last week was filled with camaraderie and reflection as colleagues gathered to celebrate his service and dedication.
The department's Facebook post has nearly 900 likes and more than 300 comments.

"Chief Vuona’s experience and knowledge will be greatly missed," the post reads. "We wish him continued success and much happiness in his retirement!!"
Among those honoring Chief Vuona was Kathy Milosz, who wrote, "Retirement is not the end, but a new beginning. A new chapter filled with endless possibilities and well-deserved relaxation. ... Enjoy your retirement, thank you for your service
"
Kristen Los wrote, "Congratulations Chief! Your dedication to Shrewsbury and the fire service is second to none! Wishing you good health and success in your next chapter!"
Chief Vuona thanked all the well-wishers, writing: "Thank you for all the kind words and wishes everyone! It has been an honor to serve you and the Town of Shrewsbury. Please know that the Department has been left in the best possible hands with new Chief Seth Colby. Thank you to all the great firefighters and officers I have worked with over the years - appreciate you all! ![]()
God Bless!"
