AUBURN — 6 people have been arrested, and 6 guns have been recovered following an investigation into a chaotic shootout earlier this month in Auburn, police said Wednesday.
The arrests come less than 10 days after Auburn police responded to a report of shots fired at 65 Southbridge Street just before 2 a.m. on March 8. Officers arrived to find an adult male with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and numerous people fleeing the area, police said. The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators recovered 60 spent shell casings of varying calibers, indicating multiple firearms had been used. Officers also found 2 handguns discarded outside the building and later recovered 4 additional firearms hidden inside.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
Auburn police credited their detectives and local law enforcement partners, including the Massachusetts State Police, for assisting with the arrests.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Auburn Police Detective Bureau at 508-832-7777. Tips can also be sent via email or text to textatip@auburnmasspolice.org.
"In addition to the criminal investigation conducted by our agency, the Town of Auburn Department of Development and Inspectional Services, along with the Auburn Fire Department Inspectional Division, is working with the property owner to ensure compliance with established bylaws, building occupancy, and usage regulations," police wrote.
