MILLBURY — 2 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition were discovered late Friday morning near a disc golf station on the playground at Raymond E. Shaw Elementary School, prompting a swift law enforcement response, according to Millbury police.
The rounds were found around 11:10 a.m., and students were immediately brought inside for indoor recess, police said. School Resource Officer Dean led the investigation, with assistance from the Worcester Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, which responded out of an “extreme abundance of caution” with police canines.
A thorough search of the school’s interior and exterior turned up no other suspicious items.
Additional patrols were dispatched to Elmwood Street School and Millbury High School. Police emphasized that no firearms were located and no threats were made to any of the town’s schools.
The investigation remains active. Parents and guardians were notified, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Millbury Police Department.
“The safety of our students is paramount at all times,” the department said in a statement, citing strong partnerships with outside agencies and school personnel as key to handling such incidents.
