AUBURN — A person died early Sunday after their vehicle overturned and became partially submerged in water on Rochdale Street, according to the Auburn Police Department.
Police said officers responded to the crash at about 2:20 a.m. and found the vehicle overturned in a body of water. Emergency crews from both the Auburn Police Department and Auburn Fire Department worked to rescue the sole occupant, who was transported to a nearby hospital but later died.
Authorities have not released the victim’s name. Police extended condolences to the victim’s family and asked the public to avoid speculation while the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
“All further inquiries should be directed to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office,” Chief of Police R. Scott Mills said in a statement.
In a social media post, Auburn police added: “Out of respect for the victim’s family, we kindly ask that the public refrain from making assumptions regarding the cause of the accident, which remains under investigation.”
