Samaritan saves driver after car rolls into Lake Quinsigamond

  • SHREWSBURY — A bystander rescued a driver after an S.U.V. rolled into Lake Quinsigamond while towing a boat Tuesday afternoon, according to Shrewsbury police.

The Shrewsbury Police Department said officers responded around 4:30 p.m. to the Corazzini Boat Ramp on North Quinsigamond Avenue after receiving reports of a vehicle entering the water. When they arrived, they found a 2021 Hyundai Palisade nearly submerged, still attached to a trailer carrying a boat.

Police said a Good Samaritan had already helped the driver out of the vehicle before it became fully submerged. Shrewsbury firefighters and Worcester E.M.S. personnel also responded and evaluated the driver, who did not require further medical treatment.

Lovey’s Towing later recovered both the S.U.V. and the boat from the lake.

Authorities credited the quick actions of the bystander for preventing injuries in the incident.
