AUBURN — Two women who allegedly stole more than $2,000 worth of merchandise from TJ Maxx recently didn’t make it far before their craving for fast food got the better of them, the Auburn Police Department said.
Police said the suspects fled the store in a black Ford Edge with Connecticut plates shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13th. But instead of driving off into the sunset, they chose the Wendy’s drive-thru directly across the street to celebrate their “five-finger discount.”
Unfortunately for them, Sgt. Wildman was on duty. A familiar face in that very drive-thru line, Wildman quickly spotted the suspect vehicle sandwiched between other cars waiting for burgers and fries. What should have been a combo meal turned into a pair of felony arrests.
Officers Markvenas, Crowley and Brooks assisted in the stop, where police said they spotted the stolen merchandise in plain view. Detectives later discovered additional items believed stolen from other stores, and neighboring police departments are being contacted to return the property.
Dominque Marion, 38, of Worcester, and Tynaja Williams, 24, of New Haven, Conn., were charged with larceny over $1,200 and conspiracy.
The Auburn Police Department couldn’t resist a reminder for would-be shoplifters: "Felonies don’t come with a side of fries."
