WORCESTER — A Charlton woman acting as a foster parent was convicted Friday of raping a 12-year-old child in her care in 2015, the office of Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. announced.
A Worcester Superior Court jury found Heather Wright-Craft, 52, guilty of a count of rape of a child, aggravated by age difference, and a count of rape of a child, aggravated by being a mandated reporter. She was acquitted on a count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
Wright-Craft’s bail was revoked following the verdict, and she was taken into custody.
Prosecutors said the assault occurred in Charlton while Wright-Craft was serving as the victim’s foster parent. She was arrested in 2017, charged in Dudley District Court, and later indicted in Worcester Superior Court in 2018.
“I want to thank the Charlton Police Department for their thorough investigation in this case,” Early said in a statement. He also credited Assistant District Attorney Thomas Ayres and Victim Witness Advocate Rachel Murphy for their work.
Wright-Craft is scheduled to be sentenced October 21st by Superior Court Judge Valerie Yarashus.
