D.N.A. links Worcester man to 4-year-old Rutland break-in

  • RUTLAND — A D.N.A. match has solved a 4-year-old burglary case in Rutland, police announced.

    On October 18th, 2021, officers responded to a report of a past breaking and entering at a home on Emerald Road. Investigators found signs of forced entry, including pry marks on the garage door and an open porch window. Jewelry, electronics and personal property were reported stolen.

    A pry bar left at the scene was collected as evidence and sent to the Combined D.N.A. Index System, or CODIS. Recently, the system produced a forensic hit identifying Oliver A. Ramos of Worcester, who had previously been convicted of burglary in Connecticut.

    The Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab confirmed the match, connecting Ramos to several burglaries in Central Massachusetts.

    Based on the forensic evidence, Ramos was charged with breaking and entering into a dwelling in the daytime for felony under Massachusetts law. He is currently in the custody of the Massachusetts Department of Correction.
