AUBURN — A Webster man who police say used a fake name to open a business account at a local tire shop and charge more than $15,000 in tires and rims was arrested October 2nd following a regional police tip.

The investigation began September 16th, when Officer Alex Myers was assigned to a reported scam at the shop, Auburn police said. The buyer identified himself as “David Young” and set up a bogus business, completing 8 transactions before the store grew suspicious and he fled, according to police.

Investigators said the suspect left his real phone number and had distinctive tattoos that matched prior booking records. Using that information, Myers identified the man as Jason Dwinell, 37, of Webster, and obtained an arrest warrant.

On the morning of October 2nd, Myers, Detective Sgt. Daniel Lamoreaux and Detective Jordan Ryan, with assistance from the Webster Police Department, arrested Dwinell at a Webster address after a tip from Douglas police, authorities said.

Dwinell was arraigned later that day in Worcester District Court on 2 counts of receiving stolen property over $1,200 and was released on $1,000 bail, police said. Auburn police thanked the Douglas, Dudley and Webster police departments for their assistance.
