Son of Bruins great charged in Leicester fraud case: Police

    LEICESTER — A 57-year-old East Boston man accused of running a fraudulent ticket scheme targeting multiple victims has been arrested following a months-long investigation by Leicester Police Department detectives.

    Robert Cheevers was arrested April 4th at his East Boston apartment by officers assigned to the Western Worcester County Major Crimes & Narcotics Task Force. He was taken into custody on outstanding warrants connected to allegations that he stole money by offering professional sporting event tickets at reduced prices but never delivering the tickets.

    According to the Daily News of Newburyport, Cheevers is the son of Boston Bruins Hall of Fame goaltender Gerry Cheevers.

    According to Leicester Police, Cheevers faces a warrant issued by Leicester District Court charging him with larceny over $1,200 by single scheme. He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Newburyport District Court for the same offense, as well as a warrant issued out of Clark County, Nevada, charging burglary, felony theft and insufficient funds.

    Cheevers was arraigned in East Brookfield District Court and is currently being held at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Jail on cash bail.

    The Leicester Police Department said its investigation was assisted by the Newburyport Police Department, North Andover Police Department, Boston Police Department and the Clark County, Nevada District Attorney’s Office.
