The Sundown is owned by Anagrams for Everything LLC, whose manager is Sean Paul Woods. Woods is also listed as a manager of Seven Hills Hospitality, owner of deadhorse hill restaurant on Main Street in Worcester.

The Dive Bar closed in November 2019 amid the anticipation of the building of Polar Park. Worcester Magazine reported in an October 2019 article that the bar’s owners, Alec Lopez and Sherri Sadowski, “explained that building owner Salvatore Molinari has plans to launch a family business on the site in conjunction with the completion of Polar Park in spring of 2021.

“Lopez and Sadowski were recently given the option of signing a short-term lease,” the article continued, “but declined based on a number of infrastructure issues that needed to be addressed.”

The Dive Bar achieved legendary status in Worcester. “Over the years, the Dive Bar has become a Worcester institution,” MassLive wrote in October 2019. “Lopez bought the business in the mid-‘90s, transforming it from a nightclub to a music venue to the craft beer destination it is today. The venue’s atmosphere is also unlike anywhere else in the city.”

“The Dive has always had this legacy,” Ricky Nelson told MassLive. “It was the first craft beer bar in Worcester, so once craft beer became popular, the Dive almost took on a whole new life of its own.”

Bill Shaner, in Worcester Magazine, wrote: “When the bar closes, it will leave behind a legacy of something larger than a neighborhood bar. In its many iterations, the small, shabby and dimly lit establishment held an outsized role in defining the culture and nightlife of Worcester.”

It appears The Sundown will have large shoes to fill.
