Beloved local bar, music venue finds buyer, will remain open

    Less than 2 weeks after announcing plans to close at the end of the year, Halligan's Bar in Auburn has found new owners and will remain open into 2027.

    The popular bar announced Sunday on social media that it has been sold to Dan Raymond and Mike and Katie Langway, the current owners of Days End. The ownership transition is scheduled for January 1st.

    In the announcement, Halligan's credited landlord Ray Butler with helping make the sale possible and said the new owners would continue the business while preserving many of the elements patrons have come to expect. The current staff will remain, and the outgoing owner said she will continue booking live music. Existing band bookings also will remain on the schedule.

    The news marks a dramatic turnaround from July 22nd, when Gus and Trina Bertel and business partner Paul Brosnihan announced the business would close December 12th after 11 years. At the time, they said they had decided to retire and begin a new chapter, thanking customers, staff, family members and musicians for supporting the business.

    A day later, the owners addressed online comments suggesting they should sell the business instead of closing it, saying they had already explored that possibility and asking supporters to focus on celebrating the bar's remaining months rather than criticizing the decision.

    Sunday's announcement revealed those efforts ultimately succeeded, with the owners saying they were "beyond excited" to have reached an agreement that will allow Halligan's to continue operating under new ownership.

    The outgoing owners said they believe the new ownership team will build on the bar's legacy while keeping Halligan's a gathering place for customers, live music and the Auburn community.
