WORCESTER — Wholly Cannoli, a cherished bakery that has been a staple in Worcester for nearly a quarter-century, announced its closure this week.
In a heartfelt social media post Wednesday night, founder and owner Richard Elia expressed gratitude to the community for its unwavering support since the bakery opened its doors in 2000. "It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Wholly Cannoli," he wrote. "We are grateful for the support and loyalty you have shown us over the years."
Wholly Cannoli, known for its signature cannoli and an array of traditional Italian desserts, has built a loyal customer base that extends beyond Worcester. Many patrons have made the bakery a regular stop for their dessert needs, often praising the quality and authenticity of its offerings.
“Unfortunately, after twenty four great years, it’s time to retire,” Elia continued in the post. He expressed pride in the desserts Wholly Cannoli has provided and the relationships formed with customers over the years.
The announcement has been met with an outpouring of appreciation and well wishes from the community, with many expressing their sadness over the closure. Customers have shared fond memories of family gatherings and celebrations that featured Wholly Cannoli’s treats, including its signature Dynamite Sticks.
“We want to thank each and every one of you for being part of our journey,” Elia added. “We will always cherish the memories and relationships built during our time in business.”
The bakery's closure marks the end of an era for Worcester's food scene, leaving a void for those who have long enjoyed its sweet offerings.
