Holden Fire Department (Facebook)
HOLDEN — Members of the local Boy Scout Troop 182 stepped up on Tuesday, June 6th, to provide much-needed assistance to the Holden Fire Department amidst a massive active house fire.
The firefighters, in the middle of their annual hose testing, had to rush to a call about a house fire on Juniper Lane. That left around 3,000 feet of supply hose scattered in Wachusett Regional High School parking lot, abandoned due to the urgency of the situation.
Anticipating that the crew would be engaged at the fire scene for several hours, Lt. Barry Tupper contacted the local scout troop.
In a matter of 15 minutes, over 20 boy scouts arrived at the high school, ready to help out the local heroes. They quickly set to work, rolling up the extensive supply hose that the firefighters had to leave behind.
Their collective effort resulted in the successful packing of the hose, leaving it ready for the fire department's pickup after they fought off the demanding blaze.

The scouts embodied the Scout Oath, which urges them to help other people at all times. Their dedication and fast response impressed not just the fire department, but the entire community.
"The Holden Fire Department greatly appreciates the scouts and leaders of Troop 182 for the hard work and going the extra mile," the department said in a Facebook post following the event.
Undoubtedly, the boys' quick response and hard work saved the firefighters extra hours of labor after a taxing day, epitomizing the Scout Law — "A scout is helpful". This act of service underlines the spirit of cooperation and the essence of community that continues to thrive in Holden.
