HOLDEN – The town of Holden announced the opening of new modular classrooms at Dawson Elementary School, according to a recent Facebook post from the town.

The project, a collaborative effort between various Holden departments and Wachusett Regional School District, saw the Department of Public Works playing a pivotal role. The D.P.W. was responsible for preparing the site, including pad area preparation, installation of fully accessible walkways, excavation for utility conduits, and setting up concrete barriers around the modular unit.

To ensure specialized tasks were handled efficiently, the D.P.W. contracted Lindgren Electric and Horizon Alarms. Lindgren Electric undertook the installation of electrical service, including the activation of lights and heating systems in both the modular unit and the main school building. Horizon Alarms was tasked with implementing alarm systems for enhanced life and property protection.

Additionally, District maintenance staff contributed by constructing accessible wooden ramps, facilitating easy access to the modular structure. This collective effort not only led to the timely setup of the classroom but also resulted in the project being completed under budget.

The town is now focusing on future enhancements, including a temporary shelter for the walkway between the modular unit and the main building. Plans are also underway to collaborate with an architect for the design of a permanent, weather-tight walkway.
