New owners to take over Sweets & Java in Holden

    HOLDEN — The owners of Sweets & Java are selling the Holden coffee shop after 11 years, but customers can expect the café’s staff and familiar atmosphere to remain during the transition.

    Bryan and Kathy Diehl announced the sale in a social media post, saying they are ready to begin a new chapter in their lives. They did not identify the new owners or disclose when the sale will be completed.

    The couple bought the coffee shop 11 years ago with the goal of creating a welcoming place where neighbors could gather over coffee, food and conversation.

    Their 2 sons helped operate the café in its early years. The business later employed numerous local students, some of whom remained through college before beginning careers elsewhere.

    “Our customers have become friends, and our friends have become family,” Bryan and Kathy wrote. “You have shared your mornings, stories, laughter, and everyday moments with us.”

    The owners said they are confident the business is in good hands and believe the buyers will build on what customers already appreciate about Sweets & Java.

    Kathy plans to continue working at the café temporarily to assist with the transition. The current staff will also remain, allowing customers to continue seeing familiar faces behind the counter.

    Bryan and Kathy said they plan to introduce the new owners to the community and help make the change as smooth as possible for customers and employees.

    They encouraged customers to continue visiting the café and to extend the same support to the new owners that the community has shown them over the past 11 years.
