More than 400 employees across Central Massachusetts are expected to lose their jobs in the coming months, according to recent filings on the state's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (W.A.R.N.) list.
The latest notices show a combined 414 workers affected by planned layoffs at 4 employers in Worcester County and the surrounding region, with job cuts scheduled between July and December.
The largest filing came from Community Healthlink Inc., which updated its W.A.R.N. notice on June 4th. The behavioral health provider reported that 127 employees in Leominster, Webster and Worcester are expected to be laid off effective July 31st.
Dover Saddlery Inc. reported plans to lay off 112 employees in Littleton between July 7th and July 20th, according to a notice filed May 7th.
Jabil Inc., formerly Nypro, reported that 103 employees in Clinton will be hit by layoffs scheduled between August 1st and December 1st. The notice was filed June 2nd.
Chase Corporation filed a notice on June 1st indicating that 72 employees in Oxford are expected to be laid off between August 1st and the end of the year.
The W.A.R.N. Act generally requires employers with 100 or more employees to provide advance notice of mass layoffs and plant closings. Notices are posted by the state to provide workers, communities and workforce agencies time to prepare for significant job losses.
The 4 filings represent some of the largest workforce reductions reported in Central Massachusetts so far this year, though W.A.R..N notices do not necessarily indicate that all affected employees will ultimately lose their jobs, as companies may revise plans or offer transfers and other employment options.
The W.A.R.N. list can be found here.
