WORCESTER — A routine errand turned into a life-changing moment for Paul Verdini Jr., a Worcester resident, who won a $1 million prize from the Massachusetts State Lottery's "Money Money Money" instant ticket game.
Verdini's windfall came from an attempt to break a $20 bill on St. Patrick’s Day.
The winning ticket was bought at Shaw’s supermarket located at 50 Boston Turnpike Road (Route 9) in Shrewsbury, which will be rewarded with a $10,000 bonus for the sale.
Choosing to take his winnings in a lump sum, Verdini will receive $650,000 before taxes. He has plans to upgrade his mode of transportation with part of his newfound fortune. A new car is on his list.
This turn of events brings a new meaning to luck for Verdini, especially when all he wanted was some spare change.
