Man busted after throwing "dynamite" out window in Worcester

  • WORCESTER – A Worcester man was arrested Wednesday morning after residents say he lit and threw half sticks of dynamite from his home, causing explosions and smoke to fill Catharine Street.

Officers were dispatched shortly after 11:30 for reports of explosions. Upon arrival, they heard a loud blast coming from the property and observed smoke in the street, according to Worcester police.

A resident reported that a man had been lighting the explosive and tossing it out a window. Officers entered the residence and found several large, red explosive sticks.

Richard Dupre, 62, was arrested and charged with throwing or placing an incendiary device, discharging or exploding an incendiary device, vandalism, disturbing the peace and possession of an incendiary device.

The Worcester Police Crime Scene Unit and Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad responded due to the size of the devices. Police said the Bomb Squad confirmed they were incendiary devices and took them for a controlled detonation.

    No injuries were reported.
