GRAFTON — After more than 4 decades of running one of Grafton’s landmark restaurants, Edward Whiterell has announced he is selling the Post Office Pub and retiring.
Whiterell, who has operated the pub for 46 years, shared the news in a social media post, thanking longtime patrons and employees. “It has been my pleasure to serve my hometown community for all these years,” he wrote, adding his gratitude to “those familiar faces who come in week after week” and to staff who helped build the business.
The North Grafton restaurant, located at Route 140 and 1 Ray Street, has been a community fixture since the late 1970s.
In March, according to an article in The Community Advocate, the Select Board approved the transfer of the all-alcoholic beverages license from Whiterell’s Olde Post Office Pub Inc. to the Helia Group LLC, whose members include Srinivas Vudutha and Parasuram Kapri.
Whiterell did not say in his post if Helia Group will be the new owner.
Whiterell’s announcement marks the end of a long era for one of Grafton’s oldest eateries, though he reassured customers the Post Office Pub will “continue under new ownership.”
