Texting stop leads to major drug trafficking arrest in Auburn

  • AUBURN — A routine traffic stop for texting while driving led to a significant drug trafficking arrest Tuesday afternoon, police said.

    Detective Sgt. Daniel Lamoreaux of the Auburn Police Department pulled over a Mercedes SUV shortly after 12:30 p.m. on September 10th after observing the vehicle cross marked lanes while the driver was texting. Upon further investigation, police discovered the vehicle was unregistered.

    During the stop, the driver, identified as Jose Luis Silva Moreno, 24, of Hubbardston, was found in possession of 4 kilograms of cocaine and a large amount of cash, authorities said.

    Silva Moreno was arrested and charged with trafficking more than 200 grams of cocaine, a Class B substance. He was held on $100,000 bail overnight at the Auburn Police Department.

    At a court appearance, his bail was reduced to $10,000.
