Spencer bridge reopens for the first time since May

  • SPENCER — The Thompson Pond Road bridge has reopened to traffic after a months-long closure that began in May. The Spencer Police Department announced the reopening following the completion of temporary repairs, allowing residents and travelers to resume regular travel across the bridge.

The bridge was initially closed after an inspection by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation revealed structural concerns, prompting a shutdown from Route 31 to Westland Drive and from Paxton Road to Oak Lane. Since then, local officials have worked on plans for both short-term fixes and a long-term engineering solution.

There are no traffic restrictions on the bridge, police said in the Facebook post.

While temporary repairs are complete, Spencer officials emphasized that efforts for permanent bridge repairs are underway, with updates to be provided as plans advance.
