SUTTON — A Shrewsbury dentist was arrested following a joint law enforcement operation targeting individuals seeking commercial sexual relations with minors, police announced Thursday.
Rizwan Baig, 45, was taken into custody on Wednesday, January 15th after arriving at an undisclosed location in Sutton where he believed he would meet a minor under the age of 16 for sexual purposes, according to authorities. The arrest followed online communications between Baig and an undercover Massachusetts State Trooper.
Baig, who is listed as a dentist in Shrewsbury on LinkedIn, was charged with multiple offenses, including sexual conduct for a fee with a child, enticement of a child under 16, and attempted rape of a child.
The operation, conducted by the Sutton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police High Risk Victims Unit, and the Blackstone Valley Drug Task Force, was part of a broader initiative during Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Authorities said the effort aimed to identify and apprehend individuals engaging in high-risk behavior involving minors.
Baig was processed and released on bail pending his arraignment Thursday at Uxbridge District Court.
Law enforcement officials declined to comment further on the investigation.
