"The liquor license of a downtown nightclub has been suspended for 60 days for a series of violations on the night of a melee there earlier this month," the Telegram & Gazette reported in November 2019. "The establishment has been before the License Commission for six violations since August 2017."

The application, which is before the License Commission, was originally set for a public hearing May 13. It has been postponed twice and is now scheduled to be heard on June 10.

The Canal District location is no stranger to controversy.

In 2019, Moonshiners Country Bar opened at 105 Water St., replacing Mambo Drink. According to an article on MassLive, "Mambo Drink had a history of incidents and liquor license violations, including a 100-person brawl in 2016 during which multiple people were stabbed."

Also, after less then four months of operation, Moonshiners had its own controversy.

In January 2020, "two female students from College of the Holy Cross told police their drinks may have been tampered with while they were at Moonshiners, a bar located on Water Street," Channel 5 reported. "The college said the students reported becoming extremely disoriented and ill after consuming a moderate amount of alcohol on Dec. 5."
