WRTA announces service to new Market Basket in Shrewsbury

  • SHREWSBURY — This past summer, the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) announced its plans to add the Market Basket at Edgemere Crossing at Flint Pond to their service area once the store opened.

The "More for Your Dollar" retailer disclosed last week doors will open for the first time at 7 a.m. on Friday, January 13th, and WRTA will be ready.

Fixed-route service on Bus Route 12 will run Monday through Friday, with the first trip arriving to the store at 6:30 a.m. and running until as late as 9:00 p.m. Other destinations on this route include Billings Square, Rice Square, South Plaza, Southwest Commons, and North High. WRTA is currently offering free fares on all routes through June 2023. More details and the full bus schedule for Route 12 can be found at therta.com/routes/12.

The highly anticipated opening is expected to have a large turnout as the New England-based chain’s closest location to Worcester.

"We are pleased to offer another option to the residents of Worcester to get their grocery shopping done so close to home," said Dennis Lipka, WRTA administrator. "We expect the addition of this destination to be a success!"
