12-hour standoff ends in arrest of barricaded man in Worcester
WORCESTER - After a grueling 12-hour standoff, a man was arrested in the early hours of April 15th following an intense negotiation with Worcester Police Department's Crisis Negotiation Team.
According to police, the incident began around 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 14th when officers arrived at a home in the June Street area to apprehend a man with an outstanding warrant. The man was reportedly acting erratically and making threats.
The man refused to leave the residence, prompting the call for the Crisis Negotiation Team. Throughout the night, negotiators communicated with the barricaded man through phone calls and text messages.
Despite making threats to stab officers and claiming to be "armed and ready," he remained isolated within the residence. At one point, the man even threw an object from his window towards officers.
The standoff lasted for over 12 hours, with sporadic contact between the man and authorities. Finally, at 6:20 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody when he exited his bedroom.
