Man arrested with gun near Polar Park during WooSox game

  • WORCESTER — A man was arrested near Polar Park during a Worcester Red Sox game on July 8th, following a scooter crash that led to the discovery of an unlicensed firearm, according to the Worcester Police Department.

Ezequiel Nunez, 23, of Ripley Street, was involved in a motor scooter accident around 4:40 p.m. Saturday, during which an officer working an off-duty assignment at the ballpark noticed him on the ground. The officer also saw another man trying to take a satchel from Nunez before fleeing the scene.

Upon approaching Nunez, the officer discovered a firearm next to him. As additional officers arrived and attempted to detain Nunez, he reportedly resisted and was subsequently handcuffed. The police confirmed Nunez did not have a license to carry firearms.

Nunez was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an F.I.D. card, and possession of a large capacity feeding device. An ambulance that was called to the scene gave Nunez a checkup, but he refused medical attention.

The incident caused no interruption to the WooSox game taking place at Polar Park. The WooSox won the game, 8-4.

Further details about the second male and the scooter crash are currently under investigation.
