WORCESTER — A Worcester man was arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle and later crashing it on Hartford Road, according to local authorities.
On the evening of Friday, July 14th, around 9 p.m., Worcester police were sent to investigate a reported car accident. They discovered a crashed Dodge and a shirtless man, who had reportedly fled from the crash site towards Burncoat Street. Another car involved in the incident had left the scene prior to the police's arrival.
The Dodge's owner told police his vehicle had been recently stolen from his driveway on Summerhill Ave. The officers issued a description of the shirtless man.
A man fitting the description, identified as 29-year-old Markis Martinez of Cohasset St., was later found at the intersection of Burncoat Street and Marland Road. During a preliminary investigation, Martinez approached a police cruiser and attempted to open the door.
Worcester police said they developed probable cause to arrest Martinez. He now faces charges of larceny of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of property damage, operating after suspension, attempt to commit a crime, and operating a car without authority.
