The Albion rooming house at 765 Main Street in Worcester (Google)
WORCESTER — In a swift response to a violent episode, Worcester police apprehended a 35-year-old man following a stabbing on Main Street that left another man seriously injured.
The incident unfolded on Friday, December 29th shortly before 10 p.m. Officers rushed to 765 Main Street, near the Albion rooming house, after receiving reports of a stabbing. They found a 43-year-old man with severe stab wounds. Police administered first aid until the victim was transported to a local hospital.
As detectives arrived at the scene, their investigation quickly picked up pace. They gathered eyewitness accounts and reviewed surveillance footage, which led to the identification of a man and woman potentially involved in the stabbing.
The breakthrough came when an officer, working on a detail near Austin and Irving streets, spotted the duo from the surveillance images. The man, later identified as Jose Rivera, a resident of Main Street, initially defied police orders and refused to show his hands. After backup arrived, Rivera was detained.
A subsequent pat-down of Rivera uncovered a knife with traces of dried blood, bolstering the police's suspicion of his involvement in the stabbing. Additional evidence linked Rivera to the crime scene.
Rivera now faces charges of armed assault to murder.
