WORCESTER — A 14-year-old was arrested on charges of armed robbery at a local market in Worcester on Wednesday evening, Worcester police reported.
Officers responded to a call shortly after 6:30 p.m. on January 24th at M&M Market at 169 Lincoln Street, where there was a report of an armed robbery. Witnesses told officers the store had been robbed at knifepoint.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had entered the market brandishing a weapon, later identified as a machete. The officers managed to secure video footage of the incident, confirming the suspect's identity and the nature of the weapon involved. A Be On the Lookout (B.O.L.O.) notice was promptly issued for the suspect, and a machete was recovered from the crime scene.
Approximately an hour following the robbery, officers located the suspect on Everett Gaylord Boulevard. The 14-year-old matched the description from the video footage. The teen was subsequently taken into custody and charged with armed robbery.
The Worcester Police Department continues to investigate the case and encourages anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
