Worcester carpenter playing with house money wins $1 million

WORCESTER — Deivson Alves Martins, a local carpenter from Worcester, has become the latest millionaire in the Mass. State Lottery, securing a $1 million prize in the Billion Dollar Extravaganza game. This game is noted for being the Mass Lottery’s inaugural $50 ticket offering.

Martins has chosen a lump sum payment, walking away with $650,000 before taxes, a decision that comes on the heels of his recent $500 win from the same lottery. His winning ticket was purchased at Family Farms at 443 Park Ave. in Worcester, which will now enjoy a $10,000 bonus for selling the lucky ticket.

This isn't the first time luck has smiled on Martins at this location. About a month prior, he won $500 and has been riding a wave of what he calls "house money" since then. His choice of ticket, drawn from dispenser #11, was influenced by his belief in the number as his lucky charm. This win, he says, brings not just financial relief but a sense of security for his family's future.

The “Billion Dollar Extravaganza” stands out in the history of the Mass. Lottery for having the highest payout percentage at 82.0 percent, along with odds of winning set at 1 in 4.10. Martins's win marks him as the eleventh $1 million prize winner in this groundbreaking game.
