WORCESTER — Worcester Police Department detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on April 26th. Officers responded to a report of a possible shooting victim in the lower Belmont Street neighborhood.
Officers found the victim inside an apartment suffering from a serious gunshot wound. Despite receiving medical aid, the boy was pronounced dead by paramedics.
Detectives have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Shortly after midnight, police arrested a 16-year-old suspect in connection with the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
The Worcester Police Department urges anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and provide details anonymously. Tips can be submitted via text to 274637, with the keyword TIPWPD followed by the message, or through the department's website at worcesterma.gov/police. Additionally, individuals can contact the Worcester Police Detective Bureau at (508) 799-8651.
