Worcester crime gun unit gets another illegal gun off street

  • WORCESTER — A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a 19-year-old Worcester man on multiple gun charges, Worcester police said.

Jonathan Colon of Endicott Street was stopped by officers from the Crime Gun Intelligence Unit on Monday evening after he failed to use a turn signal on Harding Street, according to a press release from the Worcester Police Department.

Upon being stopped, Colon could not provide identification and made suspicious movements, prompting officers to search the area of the vehicle where he was reaching. They discovered a handgun, which led to further investigation.

During the stop, a juvenile passenger in the vehicle attempted to flee the scene but was caught shortly after in a nearby shed on Canton Street. Both were arrested.

Colon faces several charges, including carrying a loaded gun without a license, possession of a large capacity gun and feeding device, possession of a gun with a defaced serial number, and possession of ammunition without an F.I.D. card.

The recovery of an illegal gun was at least the third for the recently created Crime Gun Intelligence Unit.
