WORCESTER — A Worcester man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a Belmont Street apartment and attempting to flee from police, authorities said.
Worcester police responded to a report of a break-in around midday Monday, October 14th. Surveillance footage showed a man opening a window, climbing inside, and stealing a laptop and a purse, police said in a statement.
Officers later found the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Rafael Gonzalez, riding a bicycle on Shrewsbury Street. Gonzalez accelerated and weaved through traffic when he saw officers, police said.
During the chase, officers saw Gonzalez discard a backpack. After catching up to him, police arrested Gonzalez and recovered the backpack, which contained the stolen laptop and a pair of bolt cutters. However, the purse was not found, officials said.
Gonzalez is charged with breaking and entering in the daytime to commit a felony, larceny from a building, possession of burglarious instruments, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
