Courtney Muchugu (Vermont State Police)
A Worcester woman was arrested Monday in Vermont and charged with attempted second-degree murder following a stabbing at a hotel in Waterbury, according to the Vermont State Police.
Courtney Muchugu, 31, was taken into custody after troopers responded to the Best Western on Blush Hill Road shortly before 11:30 a.m., police said. Investigators determined that Muchugu stabbed Arianis Morales, 23, of Springfield, Massachusetts, during an altercation.
Morales sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Muchugu was transported to the Berlin Barracks and later ordered held without bail at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington. She was scheduled to be arraigned at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Barre.
The affidavit of probable cause is expected to be made public following the arraignment.
