Worcester sees second homicide in 4 days

  • Police arrest suspect in deadly Southgate Street shooting

WORCESTER — A man was fatally shot on Southgate Street Saturday evening, marking Worcester’s second homicide in four days after the city went nearly 6 months without, according to police.

Worcester police responded to multiple reports of shots fired around 7:40 Saturday night. Officers arrived to find a man lying on the sidewalk and began rendering aid. The man was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A 26-year-old male suspect was taken into custody at the scene, police said. The department’s Crime Scene Unit processed the recovered firearm, and the Detective Bureau is continuing to investigate.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

Prior to this week, Worcester had reported no homicides in 2025. This latest incident follows another fatal shooting earlier in the week in which a man is charged with shooting his brother to death on Beacon Street.
