Loaded stolen gun found after Worcester car meet-up

  • WORCESTER – 2 Southbridge men were arrested after police recovered a loaded stolen handgun at a car meet-up in Worcester.

Officers responded around 9:35 p.m. Thursday to a report of 40 to 50 vehicles racing in the parking lot at 50 Southwest Cutoff. As police arrived, many cars began leaving the area.

Police attempted to stop a car that had no taillights. The driver, identified as Edwin Morales, 25, allegedly tried to flee by driving over a curb and around other cars but was blocked by traffic in the lot. Officers detained him and a passenger, Hector Rojas, 35.

Police said they saw what appeared to be a handgun in the center console. Neither Morales nor Rojas had a license to carry firearms, and officers determined the gun was loaded and reported stolen.

Both men were charged with carrying a gun without a license, carrying a loaded gun without a license, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and receiving stolen property over $1,200.

Morales was also charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.
