Festivals bring major road closures to Downtown Worcester


  • WORCESTER — Road closures for the Breakaway Music Festival are already in effect in downtown Worcester, and more shutdowns will follow Saturday for the Worcester Pride Festival, police said.

    For Breakaway, the MLK Boulevard sidewalk from Main Street to Commercial Street on the south side is closed until 10 p.m. Sunday.

    Beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, Main Street between Exchange Street and MLK Boulevard will be closed through 2 a.m. Sunday, along with one lane of MLK Boulevard on the south side between Main and Commercial streets.

    The Worcester Pride Festival on Saturday will prompt more downtown closures from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Streets affected include Front Street between Main and Church streets, Franklin Street between Main and Salem streets, Church Street between Front and Franklin streets, and Portland Street between Franklin and Federal streets. A temporary parade closure will take place between 2 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. on Green Street, Francis J. McGrath Boulevard and Temple Street.

    Police urged drivers to plan ahead, expect traffic delays and seek alternate routes while the 2 major festivals take place in Worcester this weekend.
