WORCESTER — The city of Worcester announced Monday that Elm Park Playground will close for repairs after testing revealed that a contractor improperly installed the site’s new safety surface.
According to the Department of Parks, Recreation & Cemetery, the defect was discovered during routine inspection of the playground’s recently completed renovation. The city said the contractor will replace the surface at no cost to taxpayers.
The playground, located in one of Worcester’s most historic public parks, will close beginning Thursday. Officials expect it to reopen in early fall once the new surface is installed.
Residents are encouraged to use other playgrounds at Wetherell Estate Park, Beaver Brook Park and Coes Park while the work is completed.
